Thanks to the ASA function, which was recently integrated into the DAB standard and is available as an optional software upgrade for all AVT Ensemble multiplexers, emergency alerts can be triggered within one or more DAB/DAB+ ensembles for a specific region using location codes. This allows listeners to be informed about life-threatening events such as fires, floods, or other potential dangers in their region.
An outstanding feature of the ASA function is the wake-up functionality. ASA-compatible DAB/DAB+ receivers can also be reached and switched on in sleep mode. Since not all warning messages are considered serious enough to wake up receivers, the warnings are divided into two severity levels: Level 1 warnings are evaluated by all receivers, while Level 2 warnings are only evaluated by receivers that are switched on.
In addition, dynamic labels can be used together with the audio if a visual message is required.
Advantages of the ASA function:
- Regional emergency alerts: Fast and targeted information for listeners about life-threatening events.
- Wake-up functionality: Receivers can also be reached and activated in sleep mode.
- Switch Function: Receivers can analyse alerts on other radio stations which increases flexibility and reach of warnings
- Synchronisation: Short wake-up cycles to reduce power consumption conserving battery power for portable receivers.
Synchronisation with the radio signal ensures that all devices activate simultaneously and receive alerts concurrently.
The upgrade to the ASA function is quick and easy to perform via an optional software upgrade for all AVT multiplexers.
